Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

The CPAP system is an electrical unit that uses a blower to maintain the air flow necessary for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The CPAP system prevents the collapse of the palate and tongue over the air passage. The patient uses a nasal mask that fits over the nose or nasal pillows, which are inserted into the nostrils. The result is normal breathing and uninterrupted sleep.

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP)

Some customers feel more comfortable with a BiPAP unit. Unlike the CPAP, this machine allows patient to initiate all breaths. A bilevel unit has different pressures for inhalation and exhalation. Many customers report they feel more comfortable with a bilevel unit because they feel it is easier for them to exhale.
